The Shared Ownership Code

After months of hard work, we are excited to launch our Shared Ownership Code (2025). The updated version of our Code has taken onboard consumer and industry feedback from our comprehensive consultation and pilot process, to ensure it is impactful for shared owners and practical for providers to implement.

The Shared Ownership Code (the ‘Code’) is a cross-industry initiative designed to standardise best practices and consumer protection for shared ownership. It aims to ensure transparency, fairness, and improved support for shared owners in marketing, purchasing, and management of homes. The Code is now open for organisations to adopt on a voluntary basis.

The Shared Ownership Code was developed through extensive consultation. The current version, SO Code (2025), incorporates learnings from the pilot of the Code with housing providers.
